Adding a repeating-block border to a quilt? Find whole-block counts and plain spacer-strip sizes, with a diagram showing how the corners fit.
Open toolStart with the front, finish with the backing
- Fit the border. Enter your finished center dimensions and square border-block size. Review the whole-block counts, corner blocks and spacer strips.
- Check the final outside size. A 43 × 58 in center with 6 in blocks produces a 60 × 72 in finished quilt with the default border layout.
- Plan the backing. Enter that 60 × 72 in final size in the backing calculator, then choose the extra backing margin and fabric width for your project.
The center size and the finished quilt size are different. These tools are separate: review and enter the finished dimensions yourself. Back seam allowances and extra backing margins are separate settings, not additions to the center dimensions.
The border planner supports equal square repeat and corner blocks; the backing tool compares its supported layouts, not every possible arrangement. Sew and measure sample units and check your project before cutting. Print requests can also be saved as PDFs using your browser.
